This manual will prove valuable to libraries of all sizes and locations. Library managers and administrators will find it a worthwhile resource as they contemplate the utility of an in-house lab. Library staff charged with various aspects of bookbinding and book repair will find the manual to be a practical reference tool. A beautiful collection of bookbinding techniques written, coupled with simple instructions. This book is perfect for bookbinders of all experience levels. I love Handmade Books by Charlotte Rivers. Following the Little Book of Book Making, Rivers published a second book that includes contemporary bookbinding techniques and a little more.

A book to delight amateur craftsmen, librarians undertaking their own binding and repairing, and everyone who is interested in bookbinding as a hobby. Only a minimum of text is used in this excellent pictorial demonstration of the latest and most practical methods of binding magazine collections, books, . Beautiful and durable, they appealed to book lovers who appreciated not only a book's content but also the quality and craftsmanship of its binding. Unfortunately, the introduction of machine-binding methods, while making books widely available at reasonable prices, also largely curtailed the art and craft of making fine books by hand.

CHAPTER 1. Introduction. Paradoxically, the history of bookbinding begins many hundreds of years after the appearance of the first book, one of the earliest examples of which is an Egyptian papyrus roll composed of eighteen columns of hieratic writing, dating from the twenty-fifth century B.C. and stored in a tube "binding" (1).4/4(1).   One of the principal texts of the Arts and Crafts movement in England, this classic work brought a resurgence of life and vigor to the ancient craft of binding books by hand. Its fame and usefulness has endured for more than a century, as evidenced by Brand: Dover Publications.
